Through a family member I was introduced to Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby* and began documenting this contact sport as a personal project in 2019. One of seven volunteer photographers to document the 2023 Battle of the All Stars Tournament, I was inspired to capture the courage, prowess, and spirit of camaraderie among these athletes.

Competing in the tournament were 23 championship teams from 20 states, one from the Canadian province of Alberta, and (for the first time) two border-less teams — Indigenous Rising and Black Diaspora.
